About the Hallelujah song: In 1979, after his album Recent Songs, Leonard Cohen was plagued with doubt. It was during this troubled period that he wrote the first version of Hallelujah, writing more than 80 verses before he hit on the four that were to become the final song. Released in 1984, the song was a success and would go on to be covered more than 200 times by many different artists.
